Self Guided Cycling Holidays in Malaga

We are here for you and your club

There’s nothing quite like escaping your usual terrain for sunny climbs in a different part of the world. And when you bring your fellow club riders, that’s even better. You have a chance to up your skills and also socialise when you’re out of the saddle.

Here at Malaga Luxury, we aim to offer the very best location and facilities for you and your group to experience the stunning sea views and challenging peaks, and return to a luxurious brand new villa to recuperate ready for the next day. Soak in the jacuzzi, relax in the Finnish Sauna, or simply chill by the infinity pool and enjoy the views over the Mediterranean. Enjoy the cinema area in the basement, play some pool with your buddies, and enjoy a wide selection of bars and restaurants nearby.

Do you have a non-cycling partner who would like to come along to the sunshine? No problem. We have reduced rates of only 495€ per person per week for non cyclists.

Why Andalucia?

Sunshine!

Torrox Costa has 320 days of sunshine on average per year! It's officially the best climate in Europe, and as such that makes it the perfect destination for year round cycling

Coastline

Incredible views along almost flat coastal roads provide you with the gateway to harder routes, or simply a more restful day, should you choose

Mountains

The region surrounding our villas (Axarquia) is filled with mountains and stunning mountain villages which provide ample rest stops and photo opportunities while you're climbing

Andalucia is one of the best regions in Spain for cycling both road and mountain bikes. The Vuelta actually has a few stages in the region, as the terrain meets the demands of this gruelling world famous race. Around 200 elite cyclists pass through every year.

Due to the location of our Villas, there are almost totally flat routes available along the coastline all the way to Malaga capital, which suits less advanced riders, and also those of you who want to get lots of speed in their legs and cover lots of kilometres. Also there are many mountain routes which are featured in La Vuelta, and are more suited to the stronger riders.

There are literally hundreds of routes and thousands of variations East, West and North of our villas. Any further South and you’d be in the sea!

The scenery in the Axarquia region is quite simply stunning. You have incredible views of the Mediterranean, and also the stunning views from the mountains. Trees blossom all around you in spring, and you can pick fruit and nuts on your way when you’re in the countryside.

Another very important point to note is that as you ascend into the mountain roads, there’s very little traffic and the roads are mostly fantastic in terms of surface. The East of Malaga generally has a lot less traffic on the roads compared to central and Western Malaga.

Andalucia is fast becoming one of the best places for year round training, and our facilities will help you enjoy your stay in luxury and provide you with the best recuperation facilities around.

Why Choose Malaga Luxury for Your Sporting Holiday?

We believe that quite simply no other cycling holiday company is able to offer these levels of comfort and facilities at this price point. We built the villas from the ground up with group activity holidays in mind, and as such, you’ll have all you need to unwind and recuperate at the end of the day.

We are also very flexible in terms of the size of groups we can accommodate – the standard setup between the villas can house up to 24 people. If you require a larger group, this is also possible. Just get in touch with us and we’ll work something out with you.

We’re on the best side of Malaga in terms of having a lot less traffic on the roads, the restaurants are much cheaper, and the mountains and coast roads are perfect for all levels of cyclists.

The fact that we own the properties means that we are not paying any overheads to the property owners, unlike most traditional cycling holidays.

Sample Itinerary - 8 Day Holiday

Day 1

Arrival at Malaga Airport. Either make your own way, or take a transfer to the Villa. If you need, we can take a few members of the group on a shopping trip for your week’s supplies. Settle in and enjoy the facilities. If you are renting a bike, these will be delivered today if it’s a Saturday.

Day 2

Bike Delivery between 8 and 10am ready for your first day’s riding (if you rented a bike). Breakfast in the villa before setting off on your chosen route. Enjoy an incredible day’s cycling at your chosen level of difficulty. Stop at a cafe to refuel with a coffee and a tapa, and continue the day’s riding. Return to the villa and either have a late lunch there, or explore the other restaurant options nearby. Relax in the Jacuzzi, take a swim in the infinity pool and finish off with a sauna. Check the weather for the next day and choose your route based on the wind direction (if you choose).

Day 3

Another interesting day’s cycling. After breakfast, head out in your preferred direction and take in the sights of the Axarquia region. Perhaps if you stayed flat the day before, consider taking some climbs into your route today. Pause to refuel and take some photos. Continue your ride and stop for lunch at one of the chiringuitos near the villa. Ride home and relax. Drive or take a taxi into Nerja to explore the town at night.

Day 4

If you’ve been heading in Malaga direction until now, here’s a great opportunity to head into Granada province, where you will encounter completely different scenery, and a wide ranging choice of ride difficulties. The coast road towards Motril is absolutely breathtaking, although there are some bumps both there and back, with the option to head into the mountains at several stunning locations.

Day 5

Fancy a rest day? It’s your call. There’s a load of things to do in Torrox, Nerja and the surrounding white andalucian villages. And if you want to just chill by the beach or swim in the infinity pool, then be our guest. If you want to keep riding, fantastic. There’s so much to see. Today’s a good day for us to prepare your group a special paella dinner at the villas. So make sure you have your hunger on by the evening!

Day 6

Enjoy another fantastic day in the saddle at your chosen level of difficulty. Check the wind before you choose your direction, if that’s how you like to do things. It can be good to head into the direction of the wind (if there is any) on your way out, and have the wind push you home on your way back. Although there’s no guarantees it won’t turn around at any moment! Lunch in or out, it’s up to you. As always, enjoy the relaxing facilities at the villa and give your legs some well earned rest before tomorrow.

Day 7

Here’s your last day on the bike, so make it one to remember. Get a good breakfast in at the villa before you set off, and take plenty of fuel with you. Take as many stops as you like along the way – there are so many interesting bars and cafes where you can grab a snack and a coffee, take a few photos and pause for a bit before continuing. Soak in the scenery. Stop for lunch when you’re homeward bound and feast in one of the beach restaurants before the last leg up the hill to the villas. Time to change and chill out, before heading out exploring the town. Hired bikes are collected this evening.

Day 8

It’s time to get everything together this morning before you head on out for the airport. Check you’ve got everything and say ‘see you soon’ to the villas. Either make your own way or take our transfer to the airport. Rest those legs now, you’ve earned it.

Accommodation

We have 2 brand new luxury villas next to each other . Depending on the size of your group we can accommodate you in either one or both villas. Both have been built and furnished to a very high standard with energy efficient appliances and modern decorations. Please see the photos to get an idea of how much love we put into building these villas!

Smaller groups will enjoy Villa Celeste, which has a capacity of up to 10 people, while larger parties will stay in Villa Jensen (up to 14), or both villas if required.

Each Villa has a Master Suite with en suite bathroom and private terrace overlooking the sea.

We have a CINEMA and pool table in each basement! We also have an outdoor kitchen with bar area, and many other luxury features.

All beds are 2 metres long, which is something that we specified for our taller guests. Most Spanish beds are normally only 180cm long!

The kitchens are brand new and very well specified with the latest appliances and everything you could need for preparing the food you’ll need for your demanding rides.

The facilities and levels of luxury and design simply aren’t seen on this side of Malaga. It’s normally reserved for the likes of Marbella. But we have much better mountains here! Also we have much less traffic on this side of Malaga.

FAQs

Of course. In fact we have special rates of only 495€ per week for non cycling partners based on them sharing a room. There’s plenty to do nearby, and they will love the facilities we have at the villas.

Yes! We understand that every group has different needs, and as such we are very flexible. Please get in contact with us and we will provide a bespoke offering to suit your needs.

This all depends on what you want to do with your free time. If you want to venture out in the evening, you may wish to hire a car so that you can get  into town as and when you choose. Bear in mind that taxis are priced reasonably, and there are many bars, restaurants and the beach all within walking distance.

Of course. You’ll need to pack it appropriately for the flight, in a bike bag or box. Some airlines charge a fee for this, from 30-60€, although British Airways doesn’t charge a special fee as long as the bike is within the baggage weight allowance.

Our villas are situated in Torrox Costa, which has officially the best climate in Europe. With an average of over 320 sunny days per year, chances are most of your holiday will be dry. On the rare occasion that there is rain, simply wear a waterproof jacket and maybe full gloves to keep your hands warm. It’s a good idea to pack these before you come on your holiday.

This depends on if you’re bringing your own bike or renting one.

If you bring your own, don’t forget the items you’d normally take with you, such as helmet, pedals, pump, tyre levers and tubes.

If you rent a bike, still bring your pedals, but no need for tyre levers, a pump or a helmet.

You’ll also want to bring your cycling clothes, ideally at least 2 sets including both short and long cycling shorts, cycling shoes. Gloves both short and long are a good idea, depending on the time of year.

Being on the coast, wind can arise from time to time. Sometimes it can be fairly strong, as is the case in every country! What we tend to do in these situations is start the day heading into the wind, so that we have it in our backs on the way home. Also there’s plenty of opportunity to head into the mountains which offer a lot of cover from the wind. It’s all good training!

We prefer Saturday to Saturday, although we are flexible in this regard. Get in contact with us to discuss your group’s preferences.

Absolutely. You’ll need a policy which provides medical cover for sporting activities, specifically road or mountain cycling, as well as civil liability cover. This will need to cover you for cycling in Spain. If you have a club policy in your country of residence, you need to check the small print as this may not cover you abroad in non club events.
